Effective Eating Tips to Prevent Fatigue

In today’s fast-paced world many of us suffer from fatigue. Fatigue from being over-extended between family, work and children responsibilities. Fatigue from lack of rest, poor diet and poor sleeping habits. And fatigue from just being too tired.

People can look to healthy eating to prevent fatigue because we really are what we eat. Our bodies use the nutrition we provide it to build cells and produce energy. If the nutrition is a twinkie and a soda then the energy we produce will be substandard.

If you are searching for healthy eating to prevent fatigue then you must avoid the foods that give you an initial boost of energy but then leave you flat on your face. These foods include most that are high in sugar such as cookies, candy, soda, fruit drinks, and other foods with caffeine such as chocolate and coffee. These are an effective short-term solution to a long-term problem. Work on getting rid of them slowly so you will have a better feeling for your more natural energy.

There are other foods that cause an immediate problem instead of a boost and then fall in your energy levels. These foods include carbohydrates that will cause you to be drowsy because of the altered level of serotonin in your brain. They may be good before bedtime snacks but not to treat the mid-day slump.

Positive Action to Prevent Causes of Fatigue

Now let’s focus on what you should do instead of what you shouldn’t do to prevent fatigue.

One trick to help prevent the afternoon nap is to eat pure protein at lunch.

Protein will be broken down in digestion into amino-acid building blocks that increase the production of chemicals, which will increase your level of alertness and energy.

For instance your lunch might be broiled fish and a few vegetables or a hard boiled egg and tuna.

You can include a few carbohydrates later in the day when you are past the 2-4 o’clock slump in the mid-afternoon.

Quality Nutritional Supplements Help Reduce Fatigue

Healthy eating also includes getting enough of the necessary vitamins and minerals that support your body’s function. One of those is iron.

Many women don’t get enough iron and loose it each month with their period. Unless it’s replaced you can suffer from iron deficiency anemia, which leads to chronic fatigue.

You should also get as many fruits and vegetables as possible. The USDA recommends we eat 7 to 13 servings of fruits and vegetables every day. Most people don’t come anywhere close.

Many people swear by a natural herb boost each day. In the mid-afternoon a tea from ginseng and ginkgo biloba may be just what you need.

Lack of exercise is also one of the causes of fatigue.

It may seem counter-intuitive but exercise will actually increase the amount of energy you have each day.

Getting 30 minutes of exercise during lunchtime will help to boost your metabolism and keep your engines running for the afternoon.

Corn Refiners wants High Fruit Corn Syrup to be called “Corn Syrup” due to bad rep

Big Sugar is taking Big Corn to court over the name “corn sugar.” Representatives of U.S. sugar farmers and refiners claim that the corn industry’s use of the term constitutes false and misleading advertising. We agree that the name is confusing. But we also think that you should limit consumption of all added sugar, in any name or form.

The lawsuit comes after manufacturers of high fructose corn syrup petitioned the Food and Drug Administration to change the ingredient’s name to “corn sugar” in 2010, and began promoting it as “corn sugar” in advertisements. They want to make the change largely because of the bad rep high-fructose corn syrup has received in recent years as being somehow less healthful than other forms of sugar, which has hurt its sales.

But sugar manufacturers argue that “corn sugar” is already the FDA-approved name of a corn-starch based sweetener; that advertising high fructose corn syrup as a natural sugar is false because it contains no naturally-occurring fructose; and that advertising the nutritional equivalence of sugar and high fructose corn syrup ignores the research suggesting possible health differences.

The corn industry, no surprise, takes issue with those complaints. And we don’t necessarily agree with all of them, either. Most importantly, while some research suggests high fructose corn syrup poses unique health risks, other research doesn’t. Still, Consumers Union, publisher of this website, recently wrote the FDA to argue against the name change, mainly because sugar isn’t extracted from corn.

“Such a change would confuse, if not mislead consumers to believe that ‘corn sugar’ was naturally occurring in corn and simply extracted as a sugar,” noted Urvashi Rangan, Ph.D., director of technical policy at Consumers Union. “This is misleading, since there are several chemical processing steps required, with consequent chemical changes that are not reflected in the term ‘corn sugar.’” Other consumer groups, including the National Consumers League and the Consumer Federation of America, have taken similar action.

Bottom line. It’s still unclear whether high-fructose corn syrup is any riskier than other forms of sugar. But all sugars provide empty calories. Most Americans would do well to cut back on all added sugar, regardless of name. So scan ingredient labels for it’s various aliases and do your best to stay clear of them which includes corn sweetener, dextrose, fructose, fruit juice concentrates, invert sugar, lactose, maltose, malt syrup, molasses, raw sugar, sucrose, and syrup.

Water and Weight Loss

Drinking Water for Weight Loss

Some people trying to control their weight drink bottles of diet sodas each day. Often these beverages contain caffeine, which is a diuretic causing the body to excrete water. In fact the net result may be dehydration. So if you are a heavy diet-soda drinker, and you recognise these symptoms of dehyration, you may be able to improve your health by simply drinking 6 to 8 glasses of pure, fresh water a day!

1. Headache.
The most common symptom is headaches. A major function of water is to
flush toxins from the body. Your brain is 75% water, so even being
slightly dehydrated can cause headaches.

2. Poor concentration/fatigue.
If you body can’t get rid of the toxins it will struggle and you will
feel less energetic as your body diverts energy to deal with the toxins.

3. Constipation.Drinking Water for Weight Loss - Dr Akilah El
Your body will divert water to more essential functions and as a
result your stools will be harder and more difficult to expel.

4. Reduced urine output or dark urine.
Did you know that up to 200 litres of water is passed through your
kidneys daily? Without a fresh supply of water for the kidneys to
filter waste products out of the blood, your urine will become darker.

5. Furry tongue or bad breath.
If you don’t have enough water passing through the mouth to wash away
food particles, bacteria can proliferate and result in that furry
feeling or bad breath.

6. Skin.
Your skin should feel elastic. When you pinch the skin on the back of
your hand it should snap back instantly.
