Can You Guess What McDonald’s Food Item This Is?

By Bruce Hampton

You have been served…………with mechanically separated chicken! Over a billion sold!

This is what fast-food chicken nuggets, processed frozen chicken meat, and patties are made of.    BARF!!!!!

Here’s the creation process. What they do is take parts of a chicken and put it through this machine that mechanically separate the meat from the bone. Unfortunately, that doesn’t happen.  What it does instead is smash EVERYTHING including the bones, eyes and guts making it come out looking like the picture above.

Since this meat is infested with bacteria, it will be soaked in ammonia in order to kill those little critters. But who wants ammonia nuggets? Not I and I’m sure you don’t want any either. So in order to mask the ammonia taste, they season it with a shit load of artificial flavors. [Yup, that will do it]

Right about now, I know what you’re gonna ask. “Hey Bruce? How do they get rid of the freakish pink color?”

Dude? That’s what dye is for. So in order to get people to devour this crap, they dye it with artificial colors in order to give it that white texture.

Mmmmm! Mmmm! Taste like chicken. NOT!!!!!!!!!!!

Here’s the deal with mechanically separated meat. [I’m going to call it MSM for short because I don’t have that much time on my hands.] MSM is a paste like substance that is created by forcing part of an animal carcass into the sleeve of a machine called “Meat Deboner”.

HA! Meat De-BONER!

**Dudes? If you’re trying to get lucky one night, don’t eat chicken nuggets. It will kill your boner!**

Ok, where was I? Oh yeah! I was talking about boners the meat deboner machine. So they cram the animal parts into this machine, which grinds up the animal carcasses into a big glob of reddish mush!

So this is what you get in the end.

But they’re not done folks. Next, they add ammonium hydroxide to kill the bacterial and then they add anhydrous ammonia for refrigeration purposes. This concoction goes on to become the main ingredient in many hot dogs, bologna, chicken nuggets, pepperoni, salami, jerky, etc.

I don’t know about you but my stomach is turning inside and out just typing about this stuff. Now I see why more and more people are going vegetarian.

This is what I like with my dipping sauce

It’s not only chicken nuggets that have been MSMed!!!! Most meat companies take the “cheap route” by using the less desirable meat of animals to make food. Meat that is unidentifiable like hot dogs, hamburgers and that stuff you find in frozen dinners. When these meats are Frankensteined created, they don’t really need to retain their appearance, shape or texture. In order to trick consumers, meat companies use artificial flavoring, coloring and preservatives to alter the color, taste and texture of this trash.

Who cares if it’s shaped like a turd. At least it taste good, right?

Now you’re probably asking yourself, “How can they get away with this? Is there no dignity in the Meat Packing Industry?”

The answer? HELLLLLLLLLLL NO!

You see, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), mechanically separated poultry is safe to eat and may be used without restriction.

But before you start organizing an “Occupy USDA” movement, they (the USDA) did state that commercial food products must be labeled as Mechanically Separated Poultry:

Mechanically separated poultry (MSP) is a paste-like and batter-like poultry product produced by forcing bones, with attached edible tissue, through a sieve or similar device under high pressure to separate bone from the edible tissue. Mechanically separated poultry has been used in poultry products since the late 1960′s. Mechanically separated meat may not be described simply as “meat” on food labels, but must be labeled as “mechanically separated” pork, chicken, or turkey in the ingredients statement.

Honestly, how many of you really take the time to read the ingredient labels on your food?

Since there was a big scare about the spread of mad cow disease (Bovine Spongiform Encephalopathy) the sale of MSM-derived beef products for human consumption in the U.S. was banned in 2004.

However, the United Kingdom decided to take a different route.

Since bits of the spinal cord (the part most likely to be carrying BSE) often got mixed in with the rest of the meat, products using mechanically separated meat taken from the carcasses of bovines were at higher risk for transmitting BSE to humans. The United Kingdom tightened restrictions to help ensure that pieces of the spinal cord would not be present in mechanically separated meat taken from bovines in 1989.[1][2]

Really? How do they go about doing that? Is someone pulling cow spine out of each and every carcass before sticking it into the machine? If you believe that then I have 10 acres of land to sell you in Texas. All you have to do is pay the $400 property tax and the land is all YOURS!!!!!

Here is a video clip about it for your enjoyment

I will only eat what I grow or raise myself…I am outraged!

OMG it’s frkn Ice cream god you all believe everything without researching it lol

PS – Ummm? For those who didn’t realized it I was being sarcastic!

      • N January 16, 2012 at 3:25 am

I hope you’re right! How do you know?

      • keepin' it real January 16, 2012 at 5:55 pm

        exactly Bratt.. geez people!

      • Donna January 17, 2012 at 1:21 pm

        YOUR RESEARCH?

      • Manel January 17, 2012 at 2:03 pm

Actually that’s untrue. This is in fact “meat” not ice cream.
You are all “outraged” from what you see, but continue to eat fast food and frozen “chicken” burger. Wake up ppl!Think of the chemicals you’re ingesting.
It’s really hypocritical of you all. I’m not disgusted by this because I chose not to eat meat for THIS reason. If you weren’t meat eaters, this wouldn’t make you nauseau about your last meal. think about it..

      • Heather Young January 17, 2012 at 3:30 pm

If you watch the video at the end of the article. It describes the function of the machines used in this process. It’s pretty clear that the end result of mechanically separated poultry comes out looking quite a bit like the pink goo pictured at the start of the article.

      • briget January 17, 2012 at 6:27 pm

Sorry, ice cream doesn’t ship nor pack into boxes. Also the people working with ice cream dress warmer because of the temperatures of the environment. Research…because I work for an ice cream producer. Just google meat deboner machines, very profitable business.

      • Lin January 17, 2012 at 6:49 pm

haaa i was thinking the same thing. *yanks rope*

    • natalie January 17, 2012 at 12:15 pm

it’s so disgusting what these food companies do to their animals growth hormones ect. & I agree this is disgusting; however i could personally never raise my own animals I would feel bad killing them. do you have a farm? I am curious

    • Ben January 17, 2012 at 3:44 pm

A large amount of the population in the United States don’t even have a real back yard, let alone enough space to grow a functioning sustainable gaden that can feed an entire household. I’m outraged…

    • dou61e January 17, 2012 at 6:31 pm

there’s no way I would eat my kids

    • Nick January 17, 2012 at 7:36 pm

It would be better to just eat a plant based diet … and not do any murders….

However what these people are doing with the bones in the mix may actually be saving “over all animal life”, cause pound for pound less animals have to be murdered…

  2. yum yum!! June 22, 2011 at 6:45 pm

Those chickens went to Hell…but my taste buds are going to Heaven!

    • Franz Rockwell December 21, 2011 at 11:57 am

You like ammonia covered meat? Yum yum indeed.

    • imaginaaation! January 17, 2012 at 12:59 pm

      Yay Wondershowzen 🙂

    • Ophilia January 17, 2012 at 1:05 pm

Wow, what a rediculous thing to say. It’s people like you that are allowing this to continue, you should be horrified that restaurants are allowed to feed you this crap!
      appalling!

      • ChickenMom January 17, 2012 at 7:14 pm

If we as consumers knew how our food was prepared none of would eat period. I raise what veggies and fruit I can have my own chickens and that way I know what I am eating.

    • Spetsop January 17, 2012 at 2:39 pm

Those chickens went to Hell… your taste buds are going to Heaven… but the rest of your organs are going THROUGH Hell, every time you eat one of those! Keep it up, and it will be Hell inside your body soon!

    • Alvin January 17, 2012 at 6:19 pm

AMEN!!!! As long as it taste good im fine!! been eating them since 1990 and still kick’n!!!!

  3. Mike August 12, 2011 at 11:49 am

The outrage is ridiculous, especially over the color. You know why it’s pink? Because it’s not cooked. Raw chicken is always pink.

    • docakilah August 12, 2011 at 2:21 pm

Tell yourself whatever you have to so that you can continue eating this poison. Sorry to disappoint you but chicken breast is not pink and it definitely doesn’t look like ice cream when ground up.

      • jetfxr69 December 20, 2011 at 1:57 pm

Funny, but the fresh chicken breast in my fridge IS pink. As for the grinding part, I’ve seen beef with a similar texture, and knew exactly what was in it because I’d put it there. Unless you’re pretty close to your food supply, don’t assume that what you’re getting is “real”.

Does the article show some stuff that’s unappetizing? Yes. Could a person eat better at home? Yes. Will this article make a whit of difference in the McDonald’s target demographic? No.

      • Joe December 20, 2011 at 10:47 pm

yes it is and yes it does. there is also blood in the mix. . . most cultures have some form of blood sausage and use ALL the parts of an animals. the western world just likes the meat with no bone or tendon or anything. . . must be nice to be that rich.

      • Franz Rockwell December 21, 2011 at 11:53 am

This practice is not the same as eating the “whole” animal, this is low grade chicken to start with and the leavings are reprocessed, chemically treated, re-flavored and then treated again to prevent bacteria form forming. It’s a hideous practice and probably explains why Americans and some Europeans are facing cancer and obesity epidemics.

      • Kelly C. Flanagan December 21, 2011 at 3:24 pm

I’m an idiot because I too am eating this crap. This is why my IQ level is low. I am aggressive on the internet because I’m suffering from the side effects of my bipolar meds. America is Doomed!!

    • Franz Rockwell December 21, 2011 at 11:56 am

Do you dunk your steak in ammonia before you eat it Mike? This practice is big corporate taking risks with the health and well being of unknowing customers. The “meat” you eat at fast food restaurants is little more than reconstituted, treated, and chemically enhanced floor scraps. I guess you are ok eating that? Did you ever notice the chemical smell from a bowel movement after eating fast food? That sharp, rancid odor that smells medicinal and unnatural? That’s the chemically treated meat passing through your body. It;s not healthy Mike, and it never will be.

      • sarahbelgrovesarah January 17, 2012 at 9:26 am

fish cooked in bleach is delicious.

      • Verminator January 17, 2012 at 3:46 pm

“Also, although meat packing plants typically use anhydrous ammonia for refrigeration purposes, with ammonia leakages having on occasion caused contamination issues at such plants, and sometimes introduce additional ammonium hydroxide into meat as an antibacterial agent.”

  4. duh December 20, 2011 at 12:17 pm

People have been eating guts, brains, eyeballs and much more for thousands of years. Americans don’t even think about what the rest of the world eats. Big whoopie do. Anything in moderation is usually fine..yes even McDonald’s nasty separated chicken. People don’t second guess getting drunk on the weekend yet are outraged by a fake chicken nugget. lol Funny,

    • Franz Rockwell December 21, 2011 at 11:51 am

The use of fake flavor agents and ammonium is not an ancient practice. The fact of the matter is, drunk or not, eating this stuff is not healthy for you.

    • Michael January 17, 2012 at 8:36 am

America = South America and North AmericaI but I guess you already knew that. I’m not from South or Nort America and can tell you that where I’m from we don’t eat brains and eyeballs. I don’t think people going to McDonalds would eat that if they knew what’s in it.

      • realy?! January 17, 2012 at 8:04 pm

really? you dont think people would eat from McDonalds if they knew what was in it? really?

for years articles like this have been coming out people have known from the start what is in the food, food being used loosly, and yet the business is still growing.

    • guvnor January 17, 2012 at 1:53 pm

good for Macdonalds using the entire bird. Ever had head cheese? Also, why is this ‘meat’ going into a cardboard box without plastic? It doesn’t matter if it’s frozen or cleaned with ammonia, all meat products are wrapped in plastic and then put into those boxes. In my fifteen years in the restaurant biz that’s how it always went down. And on that note, why are they going into shipping boxes before being shaped? I’m pretty sure, just guessing, that this process would be streamlined directly into a patty or nugget making machine… If not, I’m patenting it and selling to Mcdonalds.

  5. soopermexican December 20, 2011 at 12:23 pm

    yum yum gimme some!!!

  6. Mike S December 20, 2011 at 3:48 pm

Many of the claims in this article are untrue or at least very blown out of proportion. I don’t personally eat these types of things because they are unhealthy and kinda gross. Anyway, I was hear reading your great article on pain relieving foods and took a look at this bad boy. Thanks for your blog, I like it!!!

    • Franz Rockwell December 21, 2011 at 12:00 pm

I worked in food manufacturing for a while and the process of using harmful chemicals in edible food products is true. Crackers, cookies, and breads use ammonium powder to stop bacteria and increase shelf life. The smell, much like cat urine, was confusing and shocking, being that I was working with graham crackers. Industry abuses the public good for profit everyday, and apologists like you do nothing to help matters.

    • Fondacey January 13, 2012 at 5:08 am

Thanks Mike for being one of the few here who understand the difference between fact and fallacy.

  7. Joe December 20, 2011 at 10:45 pm

the outrage and disgust stem from the FDA keeping things perfect to the point of developing american paranoia. your disgust comes from your own elites view of what food should be.
i know it may seem gross but the use of ground meats is an old french style called terrine. if you watch the video he mentions how “less noble” parts (also stemming from monarchial rule in the middle ages when the most noble pieces were considered to be the breast, leaving the less noble pieces for the plebs, this is why chicken wings weren’t even thought of as a meal until the buffalo wing came around only about 40 years ago) are used for the mechanical separation thus reducing waste to only the bones. there are a million recipes online for blended meats of almost every variety although it is more common with seafood like shrimp and salmon. Yeah, the pic looks gross but its nothing new and not really a big deal.

  8. Franz Rockwell December 21, 2011 at 11:50 am

Don’t forget about the use of ammonium and fake flavoring agents that do little to add to the health of the product. Eating bones, marrow, and the “whole” animal is an ancient practice, but this is just industry running amok for profits. I have no doubt that most “meat” used by McDonalds and Burger King is made this way. I worked in food manufacturing for a while and the same can be said for crackers and cookies. Ammonium seems to be an industry standard in food manufacturing. I wont name names, but it’s the same all over.

    • david January 12, 2012 at 11:46 am

It’s refreshing to read comments of educated people. Thanks.

      • April January 16, 2012 at 11:29 pm

I agree with the point you both are making regarding the healthiness of this food but really, do you only consider people “educated” if they agree with you, david?

  9. Cheyenne January 4, 2012 at 3:51 pm

Go FRANZ! The chicken nuggets look disgusting….and seriously, you never know what you’re really putting into your body!

  10. Beverly Jane January 5, 2012 at 6:12 am

I don’t see anything funny in this write up. I think our food is seriously flawed in many instances. I once asked a meat man what was wrong with their hamburg? He took me aside so that no other customers could hear me and said, “you must have very delicate taste buds because you can taste the gasses that have been put into the meat BEFORE it is packaged and sent to us for sale”. So, I only go where I know the meat isn’t treated that way. By the way, I cannot afford it, but Kosher chicken is NOT pink. It tastes wonderful when roasted like any other chicken, but it sure doesn’t taste list the ordinary chicken we get at the super markets.

  11. Christopher January 10, 2012 at 1:37 am

All processed chicken products are the same stuff, should see how chicken loaf is made. You know the stuff from the deli and even most devon I wpould not touch with a few barge poles !!

  12. Joseph (@thepurpleman) January 10, 2012 at 10:21 am

go vegetarian and organic!i pity those chickens…undressed and all.lol.

  13. Jimmy January 10, 2012 at 1:30 pm

    Looks good to me

  14. Jizzlobber January 11, 2012 at 7:39 pm

it looks like a big pink python lol!

  15. Ben January 13, 2012 at 12:21 am

I’m a vegetarian. Anybody who thinks this “food” is okay to eat I encourage to eat more. Chances are get erectile dysfunction or you’ll become sterile and NATURE can continue running it coarse.

  16. Jason January 13, 2012 at 4:28 am

oh get over it all of you

  17. fourforfore January 14, 2012 at 3:22 am

    I’ve been a vegetarian for 43 years.

Never spent a night in a hospital.

    Never had a cavity.

The sh&& you all eat is truly disgusting. Wow. Horror movie. Pass the lentils & kale. Thank you very much.

  18. iiiguilk January 15, 2012 at 3:56 am

    Yummy, Chicken mush!

  19. balor123 January 16, 2012 at 2:52 pm

If you follow a Paleo diet, then actually this meat could be considered quite healthy from one perspective. Organ meat is nutritious and lacking in the neolithic diet. Ammonia… not so much.

  20. Jenedra January 16, 2012 at 3:41 pm

thx to this video i am never eating mc d’s chicken nugggets…. i dont know mabye not even meat ill go vegetarien if i have tooo!!!!!

  21. Chris Yun January 16, 2012 at 6:22 pm

I don’t really care. Just like it says, “But, hey, at least it tastes good, right?” It taste delicious! If people want to see how the process of different types of meat are obtained might as well go vegetarian. I’ve been eating meat all my life and I have got anything more severe than a common cold or been sick or weak anywhere in my body. As long as you don’t eat this stuff everyday it’s completely fine. Oh and I rarely eat vegetables and I’m completely healthy.

    • Verminator January 17, 2012 at 4:05 pm

Have you seen SuperSize me? Well someone did a counter to Supersize me and did exactly what the guy in the video did. He ate McDonald’s every day… however. He eliminated soda and french fries from the diet and I believe he actually lost weight and was perfectly healthy. I think he stuck to some of the more nutritional things McDonald’s made, but he would eat the burgers and what have you too. It was the sodium and the sugar that had destroyed the first guy.

Just some food for thought. :>

      • OmnivoreforLife January 17, 2012 at 8:09 pm

That documentary is very interesting. A high fat, high protein diet can be extremely healthy. Carbohydrates and sugars are the addiction that we all really need to fight. A good friend of mine is a personal trainer in southern California that teaches this diet with amazing results. Fruits and vegetables are fine, but meats are’t the problem. More people should look into this “reverse supersize me” documentary.

  22. lindsey January 17, 2012 at 1:38 am

If you don’t like it don’t eat it there’s no point arguing with strangers over the web about it lol I only eat fast food when I don’t have time to cook or I’m to lazy

  23. bob January 17, 2012 at 3:12 am

Does any one know how i can get a year supply of the stuff makes me want to go to McDonalds

  24. Sweet January 17, 2012 at 4:28 am

I don’t want to live on this planet anymore 😦

  27. Try Living Beyond Organic - Paul Martinez January 17, 2012 at 1:26 pm

This is truly disgusting and its truly the creation of man for the purpose of money. How many of these do you think your body can take before deteriorating from the inside out? I’ve found a company that sells all organic grassfed beef and dairy products with a mission to help others in need and you can actually get your groceries free here: http://beyond-organic-food.com

  28. Julie in Canada January 17, 2012 at 2:16 pm

M y dad had a butcher shop till just a few years ago. There is no way there is bones guts and eyeballs in there. It’s so strick now with raising your own livestock….you have to send them to slaughter and get graded (and safety test) to get them back. The meat shop closed cuz the goverment came in and seized all the local beef my dad had slaughtered (like he did his whole life)and paid huge fines for not sending the animal out to get killed. Plus he woud do all wild meat for the hunters but not no more. Guts are full of feces and bones splinter? they cut the head off for a reason ppl! lol

  29. Let them be January 17, 2012 at 2:38 pm

Healthy eaters….I don’t get why so many of your are upset with the people defending processed foods. Darwinism is alive and well, and eventually it will catch up with them. You could show them all the evidence in the world to eat healthy, but they would find a method of denial, to gratify that overactive id of theirs.
Look at the rest of the world (hard for some Americans to do) in Europe, Australia, Canada and most of Asia, more people smoke, but statistically they have much lower rates of cancer and heart disease. Part of that reason is because they aren’t fisting massive amounts of chemicals down their gullet daily. You have only one body, if you WANT to be a fat ignorant slob, go for it. But know that you have personal issues way beyond what your putting in your mouth.

  30. Scott Moreno January 17, 2012 at 3:24 pm

For all of you who believe in unbridled Capitalism, this is what the result is; increasing profits at any expense.
Put enough salt and artificial flavors on a dried up dog turd and apparently we would that too!
    Welcome to “GreedWorld” (Earth)

  31. Ben January 17, 2012 at 3:50 pm

Well lets all just tell every fast food chain how we feel. Ask them real nice to stop giving us processed food. Or or or Wait you all could even boycott them, That’ll show’em! Or more realistically you could stop eating it, and not worry about what other people do. I imagine I will out live some of these hippie nut jobs, who will die of nothing more than stressing them selves out over something that has no consequences on their lives.

  32. CLS January 17, 2012 at 4:33 pm

They forgot to mention the BUTANE the FDA permits in those nuggets, as well. “The Omnivore’s Dilemma” is a VERY eye-opening book. It will change the way you eat at fast food joints for sure.

  33. Tahoe R. Kamman- Nevada January 17, 2012 at 4:36 pm

My big takeaway from reading the comments is that vegan’s are overly concerned with the smell of poo.

  34. Alex Cartwright January 17, 2012 at 4:57 pm

We already drink each others piss and waste water that has gone through chemical treatment. Why not have some chicken goobers for a snack? The “white frankenmeat” in McD’s nuggets, at KFC or in your Subway chicken sandwich is probably not any healthier. It just looks nicer.

  35. Keith Clarke January 17, 2012 at 5:42 pm

If it looks like chicken is a good start to it being chicken…

  36. James Lala January 17, 2012 at 5:42 pm

Good thing I’m vegetarian. Whenever I go to McDonald’s, I get a cheeseburger with out the meat and some french fries. And, at least the soda will always be good.

  37. PinkyBug January 17, 2012 at 5:46 pm

I knew there was a good reason why I stopped eating at fast food places!!! It was so bad at one point when I ate anything at any fast food place, all I tasted was the nasty grease. When I started refluxing anything I ate, that’s when I stopped eating the stuff. This confirms what my stomach was telling me.
Maybe, and that is a HUGE MAYBE, if they stopped with the processing and/or chemical treating things that Humans eat……..until then NO WAY!! I will say that Subway products have NEVER given my tummy ANY problems.

  38. Todd January 17, 2012 at 5:54 pm

  43. jUDY MANASEK January 17, 2012 at 6:35 pm

  45. Lori Ann Termini-Menini January 17, 2012 at 6:45 pm

Geez, I know McDonalds was bad news but wow….

  46. Angelica January 17, 2012 at 6:52 pm

    Utterly repulsive.

If we can find ways to use every last bit of an animal then that is preferential to wastage. Offal and bones are also good for you, so don’t scorn their usage, Europeans eat them. However, the animal must be treated with respect and dignity and it would be better if the resulting food was healthy and not full of chemicals. The real answer: buy fresh, local, free-range, unprocessed food.

  50. Does_not_waste_food January 17, 2012 at 7:27 pm

I guess I am my own mechanical meat separator. I was raised to not let anything go to waste. Guts, neck, feet (pigs feet, chicken feet), eye balls, etc are ALL EDIBLE. When I eat chicken wings, drums, I eat it all the way to the bone to where I even start sucking the ends with the ligaments/tendons. After finishing a whole baked chicken, I also take the rib cage, neck and feet to boil and make more broth. All these items are edible. I do agree that the artificial flavoring, and ammonia is the disturbing part but that’s ALL meat products that have to be preserved, shipped and have an extended shelf life.

All the rib meat, tendons, ligaments, guts, etc are completely fine. Vietnamese PHO uses Tripe (stomach), ligaments and tendons in their soups. The one key item though with all foods is the freshness. I don’t agree with the articles bias of stating that the other parts are not edible and unhealthy. It maybe a different acquired taste, but it is completely fine. Hell, people eat LIVER for crying out loud.

  52. Shane January 17, 2012 at 7:36 pm

Please you think the shitty sterile food that Mc.D’s gives you is bad? That’s nothing compared to the NDAA bill past on New Years eve, or the Monsanto’s genetically modified crops which not only destroy non modified crop fields, but Have been linked to heart disease. You can choose to not eat that crap at you will, you just don’t eat it. But there are freedoms of choice being taken away from people right now in what that say and consume. I say go bigger. Mc.D’s is the small picture. Oh ammonium is also used to sterilize beef aswell. Nasty.

  53. notyou January 17, 2012 at 7:40 pm

It’s funny how people want to be “outraged” by this. But processed food is much cheaper than organic. It’s one of the reasons food prices don’t effect people in countries with lots of processed food, as much as people who consume more raw ingredients. . Just don’t eat food unless you know whats in it. Not that difficult..

  54. Shami A January 17, 2012 at 7:43 pm

It looks like the paste they use at the dentist to take impressions.

Absolutely disgusting – my stomach is turning. Only to combat the doubtful among us, I’m wondering if you have some endnotes or something else with sources. I would love to be able to point to that when someone says this is a bunch of propaganda.

    Thanks for the fantastic post!

That looks like something that came out of the south end of a northbound My Little Pony.

  59. Barb Winters January 17, 2012 at 8:20 pm

Don’t be outraged. Just don’t eat it!

  60. Gary H. January 17, 2012 at 8:21 pm

Not that I have a problem with vegetarians (at all), but I think it should be clarified that this is a problem with the industry, not with eating meat. this specific case is horrible and should be avoided, but it’s not like the mass production of vegetables, grains, legumes, milk, yada yada are without fault. It speaks nothing of the ethics of eating animals at all, really. I can understand choices to avoid eating McDonalds and other fast food (and good on you, really), but all of the people saying “this is why I’m vegetarian” really need to rethink the logic of their argument.

  61. cassie January 17, 2012 at 8:22 pm

I bet starving people in third world countries would love some chicken nuggets.

  66. Shannon January 17, 2012 at 8:44 pm

Not only is it gross but the added hormones are causing young girls to begin menstruating early and the meat processing is a direct link to one of the most deadly cancers today: pancreatic cancer. Add to that all the things we’ve know for a long time about high fat content and absolutely zero nutritional value it makes me wonder why in the world we’d feed this stuff not only to ourselves but our kids!

  67. Srb January 17, 2012 at 8:54 pm

This is why I don’t eat processed meat. All you rabbit food eating vegetarians are on your high horse about this but the fact is that this is not meat. I have no problem eating fresh animals, and I always buy kosher unless it’s the almighty pig.

  68. magen January 17, 2012 at 9:50 pm

This is why i don’t eat fast food or processed meat. not only is it gross and bad for you and its the leading cause of obesity.

  69. Sauasage Luva January 17, 2012 at 9:54 pm

  70. Gaboo January 17, 2012 at 10:03 pm

DON’T TELL ME HOW I SHOULD FEEL!!! I eat this shit sometimes and I know that it is shit. When I die, it won’t be because of a McDonalds patty. For some people, I understand that the horrors of processed chemical fried gunk are a daily reality. But whatever! I am not outraged. I understand why this BS is prepared in this way. . . I am more outraged by the farmer’s lack of rights, personally, and by the inefficiency of our cattle-based food economy. We can afford to eat less burgers. Come on. Here’s how it works. Most farms do not grow veggies or raise animals. Most farms grow corn which is used as cow / chicken / pig feed. Nevermind that this is not a good crop for animal feed… it is cheap! So like half of our agricultural system exists to support the other half, which is meat. Could we just cut our meat consumption in half and raise our agricultural efficiency by 100%??? I don’t know folks. . . How does that seem to you? Every American’s fridge, stocked with organic chicken or steak or ground beef, but not only that- tons of fresh onion and peppers and zucchinis and broccoli, and wheat flour and hot grain cereals and organic eggs and milk!!! Just stop eating so much meat. EVERYONE can help make local farming more efficient, more sustainable, more delicious…. mmmmmm

I have been known to go to a fast food place – never McD – when it HAD to be fast. Otherwise I shop carefully and prepare my own food or go to a restaurant that I trust. There are perfectly fine dishes that can’t be faked..like sushi and sashimi…or, if it must be meat, it is possible to get organic meats or eat somewhere where organic foods are served. If you listen to your body it will tell you what it needs – sometimes even chocolate or sugar. I developed an allergy to cow’s milk a few years ago – rice milk or almond milk are excellent substitutes. I have done vegatarian and sugar-free – both did not improve my health but being aware of my body’s needs did. I think no one needs McD’s “hamburgers”. I am a 65 year old man with a perfect heart and no blood pressure problems and the only cancer scare I have had was on my skin. One of the most peculiar dining experiences of my life was a vegan birthday celebration! It’s all about balance and awareness…not emotionalism or fanaticism.

  72. Kathy January 17, 2012 at 10:46 pm

This is so disgusting, I know your focusing on McDonalds but won’t the other Fast foods be serving same type of products?

  73. Jerry A. Clum January 17, 2012 at 10:46 pm

My brother lives in Alaska and they have a commercially available product that is essentially composed of a weak ammonia solution that many residents use to soak wild game and to remove the wild taste. They then allow the meat to breathe for 12-24 hours which allows the ammonia to turn to gas and evaporate. I have never noticed any ammonia odor or taste in any meat treated in this manner after it has been properly cooked.
